Le Jardin de Petit-Village, second wine of the estate, is essentially made from the Merlot grape, traditional Pomerol grape variety. It is an elegant, round and harmonious wine, ready to drink earlier than Château Petit-Village.
100 % Merlot
100 % from barrels of one vintage,
for 12 months
The harvest at Château Petit-Village started on 23rd September and ended on 12th October. It took a total of seven days to harvest our 8.6 hectares of land in production. In 2016 we had a relatively damp, cool climate until the end of June, when the weather became dry and sunny. Deep roots and cool clay subsoil meant that our vineyards withstood the dry period very well, with the exception of a few young plants which suffered a bit. The long-awaited rain arrived on 14th and 15th September with 28 millimetres, reviving the final phase of ripening. A beautiful Indian summer allowed us to take our time and harvest every single plot at exactly the right level of ripeness. We began harvesting some of the Merlot vines on 23rd September, followed by the old Merlot plots on 28th and 29th September, as well as on 5th and 6th October. Finally, the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet- Sauvignon were harvested on 11th and 12th October.
"Produced entirely from Merlot, Le Jardin de Petit-Village 2016 presents all the combined characteristics of the variety and the appellation. It is between purple and ruby in colour, with aromas of fresh red fruit, a light note of spice on the nose, and great smoothness on the palate. This is a perfect balance for a wine that can be enjoyed two or three years after bottling."
